Maddy and Gabby with Romeo

I was hoping to work on my U-neck School Girl Vest. However, events had left it abandoned, languishing on the table waiting for me.

The goats are losing their coats so I have to hoard the cashmere before they rub it all off on the fencing. I planned to start yesterday. I bundled up and headed out to the barn. Then calamity struck I walked into the middle barn to grab the goat stand. I realized the barn was full of water with a sheet of ice underneath. We’ve had quite a few melting days mixed with new snow the last two weeks.  After closer inspection and shoveling  I realized the frost heave and the snow drifts where higher than the barn floor level. So I spent the next 2 hours chipping ice to create lower troughs for the the water to drain.

I can barely move my arms and even my fingers because I’m so sore….even my palms.  I know this will pass and I will be able to pick up my knitting again but in the meantime I’ll try to spin.

I have gotten some spinning done this week. I started working on this batt at my adult ed class where I’m teaching spinning and fiber prep. We had our wheel spinning class last thursday and it was amazing!!!!!! The students were great!!!!! They learned to spin and I got the opportunity to learn about other kinds of wheels. At the end of class everyone tried everyone elses wheel.

Eventually I hope to have enough wheels that I don’t have to require you have a wheel for the class. There are no close places to try a wheel around here so I hope to collect a variety of wheels. I really believe you should try wheels to find what you like and what fits you.

Mentioning New Wheels……. I found this baby going into an auction. She came with another maiden and a bulky flyer and 4 bobbins. I was able to make a deal with the owner and snatch her up before the auction.  There were also a set of handcarders included which will be just perfect for my fiber prep class this week. The wheel wasn’t looking real pretty at the time coated in dust and cobwebs. A little love and elbow grease was all she took to look beautiful again. The only thing I had to replace was her brake band. She spins like a champ!!!!!
